“This is a fascinating story, well told.  As I read the book sitting by the spa at Two Bunch Palms, I could see Capone's bungalow and the turret above it.  It felt as though times past were coming to life before my eyes, envisioning Joe and One Arm.  Throughout my visit, everywhere I looked seemed filled with the ghosts of their past.  It kept my interest as I learned the inside scoop on prohibition.  I thoroughly enjoyed the read.  Thank you.”

“What an eye opener.  Prohibition depicted as it affected the lives of Gladys’ family.
Prohibition.  As a distant memory to most of the world today, it exposes how the ordinary man and woman never really considered how a glass of beer could lead to the rise of such powerful and blood-thirsty mobs taking over our country and corrupting our local governments.  Joe’s battle with his conscious and overwhelming love for Gladys’ mother touched me deeply.”

“Your step-grandfather, Daddy Joe, was an extraordinary man.  I feel honored you shared this story of his life with us.  The inner strength he had to bring forward to handle the issues in those years of prohibition was inspiring.  He walked a fine line trying to avoid the violence, yet because of Capone, his love for his wife Ida and Gladys, he had no choice.”

“The bursting shells of WWI never stopped ringing in Daddy Joe’s ears ... even as he fought to survive the explosive times that were the Roaring 20’s.  Married to the mother of famous Silent movie star Gladys Walton, Joe soon found himself caught up in the vortex of crime that the Prohibition Era created, soon employed by Capone.  Capone’s West Coast lieutenant, One Arm, is a tragic and unforgettable character who fought to make a living the only way he could.  This is Joe’s story though, and through his eyes you experience Capone’s West Coast hideaway, gun battles in Chicago’s icy underground tunnels, fighting off rival mobs in L.A., and assassination attempts on Gladys.”
